But don’t worry, we’ve got some fantastic perks to show our appreciation! Keep reading to learn more about what it means to be an ANE staff member and what you’ll gain from the experience.
Before you jump in, please take a moment to carefully review the information below. We want to ensure you fully understand the responsibilities and rewards of each role. We can’t wait to meet you! If none of the below roles feel like a good fit for you, feel free to write in a role.

WHAT WE ASK OF YOU.
- We seek individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative spirit. By joining our team, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring a successful, safe, and enjoyable convention.
- Your dedication as an Anthro New England staff member directly contributes to the amazing experience we aim to create for our attendees. We ask for a commitment of approximately four hours per day during the convention for roles that are considered “Seasonal”. Our “Core” roles include vital pre-convention work and typically require work year-round.
- Whether you have a specific skill in mind or are eager to lend a hand as a ‘general support person,’ we welcome your interest! Having a general idea of where you’d like to contribute helps us find the best place for you on the team. If there isn’t a role listed below that fits you, feel free to write in a role you think you’d fit in best for Anthro New England.
- We believe in keeping our staff informed and connected, so we’ll have a few online meetings before the convention for all roles. While we understand you may not be able to attend each and every one, they’re a great way to stay up-to-date. We also use Slack and Google Workspace to share information and collaborate, so please be sure to check them regularly.
- For our dedicated Core roles, we hold regular meetings throughout the year to update progress. While these aren’t required for most of the year, attendance is expected in the final months leading up to our annual event.
We truly value the dedication of our staff members and we want to be clear that it is a significant commitment. If you’re looking for a way to contribute with less time investment, we’ve got plenty of exciting volunteer roles during the convention. If you’re ready for the staff experience, explore our open positions below and see if something sparks your interest!
STAFF TIERS & PERKS.

As our Core and Seasonal roles involve different levels of commitment, the perks offered are tailored accordingly.

Logistics staffers are responsible for moving Anthro New England’s infrastructure from the off-site storage facility to the convention (“load-in”), moving items around the convention space (“on-site”), and moving everything back to storage after the con (“load-out”). There is lots of heavy lifting, pushing hand-carts loaded with bins, organizing, and stacking. This is your chance to put your Tetris mastery to good use. Working physically in close proximity to other staffers is central to the role. Handling things gently, knowing your limits, and taking breaks when you need them are skills we value highly. We have two different staff positions to choose between (or you may do both).
On-site staff will receive staff benefits including comped attendee registration, access to the staff hospitality suite, a staff shirt + pin, and priority elevator access while on shift. Due to the critical nature and longer/difficult timing, staff working load-in/load-out will be paid a stipend for completing both shifts, in addition to the regular staff benefits.
- Arrive at the off-site storage location Thursday morning prior to the con to assist loading the box truck.
- Assist unloading the box truck once it arrives at the con.
- Assist loading the box truck at the hotel early Monday morning after the con.
- Travel to the off-site storage location to assist unloading the box truck back into storage.
- Plan to spend around 6 hours on load-in and 6 hours on load-out.
- Assist other departments as needed to transport items around the convention space.
- Other miscellaneous exciting non-lifting logistics jobs that might pop up.
- Cover 2+ 6-hour on-call shifts.
- Remain on-site, available, and contactable during your shift.
- Enjoy the con, but be prepared to drop what you’re doing at a moment’s notice to go help people for a little while.
- Pick up heavy things and put them down again.
- Be sober, well-rested, and appropriately dressed.
- Ability to operate safely and effectively in close proximity to other staff, volunteers, and con-goers.
- Ability to push a loaded hand cart a long distance repeatedly.
- Ability to work in a team, including team-lifting heavy objects.
- Previous equivalent experience strongly preferred, e.g. retail stocking, moving contractor, or other con/event logistics.
