VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES.

Volunteers are the core of Anthro New England. Without you, much of our event would not be possible.

VOLUNTEERING ESSENTIALS:

You have great skills and we appreciate being able to put them to good use! Keep in mind Anthro New England may need your help in a variety of departments and we appreciate your flexibility. Most volunteers work between four and 20 hours during the weekend, but the number of hours you work is completely up to you – there are more rewards the more hours you work!

Volunteer shifts are in four-hour blocks throughout the convention. If you sign up to volunteer before the convention, we can schedule your hours ahead of the convention so that you can plan around your shifts with ease. Times are flexible to meet any accessibility needs. As well, we have accessible positions available that don’t require movement and can be done seated.

Anthro New England volunteers are rewarded with discounted registration for next year’s convention. Discounts are tiered based on how many hours you volunteer:

4-8 Hours of volunteering: 25% discount for ANE 2023 Attending-level registration
8-12 Hours of volunteering: 50% discount for ANE 2023 Attending-level registration
12-16 Hours of volunteering: 75% discount for ANE 2023 Attending-level registration
16-25 Hours of volunteering: 100% discount for ANE 2023 Attending-level registration
20+ Hours of volunteering: 100% discount for ANE 2023 Attending-level registration plus T-shirt

Night and pre and post con shifts earn discounts 1.5 faster than their daytime counterparts. Every volunteering hour after 10:00PM EST and before 8:00AM EST, before Registration opens on Thursday, or after Closing Ceremonies will count as 1.5 hours when tallied for rewards.

Once your volunteer application is submitted, we’ll reach out to you and work with you to find the responsibilities you’re most comfortable with. Currently the areas open to volunteers are:

Badge Checkers
One of our most urgently needed positions you will be responsible for checking that attendees have a badge before entering a convention area. This position can be done while seated and with limited movement.

Line Management
As we all know, lines are a part of cons and Line Control volunteers help us make sure our lines run smoothly.

Registration Assistant
Registration is the first place our attendees go and the registration assistant acts as a runner to help fetch things Registration staff need at the desk, such as badges, sponsor materials, etc.

Con Safety Patrol Assistant
Con Safety helps keep our con safe and we need people who are able to walk the con space in conjunction with Con Safety staff.

Con Store Attendant
The con store is where attendees can buy convention merchandise and the con store attendant will assist in retrieving products for cashiers.

Game Room Attendant
We’re looking for someone who could potentially fill in small gaps in staff coverage. Responsibilities include checking badges and checking in and out games.

Logistics Setup & Tear Down (pre and post-con)
Logistics helps pick stuff up and put it down. We need help emptying the truck once it gets to the convention and bringing all materials where they need to go and in some cases assisting in setting up and at the end of the convention we do the opposite. In addition the Dealers Den also needs people to assist dealers during setup and breakdown.

Ballroom setup & Tear Down (pre and post-con)
The ballroom needs help being setup and broken down. Prior AV experience is highly preferred.

Take a few minutes and fill out the volunteer application above. We would love to hear from you.
